TERROR THREAT LOOMS IN KANO, RESIDENTS URGED TO EXERCISE CAUTION                                                                                                   25-01-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                Kano State has been placed on high alert following intelligence reports of suspected terrorists planning to launch attacks on public gatherings in strategic locations across the state.

The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has issued a security alert urging residents to exercise caution and avoid crowded places until further notice.

In a media statement signed by police public relations officer in Kano SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa and made available to Africa247 said to prevent potential attacks, the police have deployed a team of experts from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear units to strategic locations.

“These units are on high alert and can be contacted through 08169884988 or 07067157218 to report suspicious persons or items.

“Residents are encouraged to report any emergency or suspicious activity to the nearest police station or contact the Kano State Police Command through emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.”

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has expressed concern over the blockage of the venue for the National Tijjaniyya Maulud by security agencies.

Kano State Government has described the action as unnecessary and unjustified, stating that the event will hold as scheduled on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Kofar Mata Stadium.

The government has urged the Federal Government to withdraw its security agencies from the venue and allow the event to proceed without hindrance, emphasizing that Kano State has always been a beacon of peace and religious tolerance.

In a press conference, Commissioner Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya assured guests from across Nigeria and beyond that the National Tijjaniyya Maulud will hold successfully, despite the security concerns.

He urged residents to remain peaceful and steadfast in their commitment to observing the annual religious gathering.
