LAWMAKERS RAISE ALARM OVER INCREASING ACTIVITIES OF BOKO HARAM AND ISWAP IN THE NORTHEAST                                                                                                               07-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu.                                                      The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to stem the growing activities of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North-Eastern part of the country.

The call followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Ahmed Satomi on the need to curtail escalating attacks on military formations in Borno and Yobe States, which has resulted to the death of several military personnel
Security challenges confronting the nation dominated proceedings at the House of Representatives following resumption from a five-week recess.
Deliberations focused on increasing attacks on military formations in the North-East, killings of innocent citizens in Benue State, as well as kidnapping and killings in Zamfara State.

In a motion presented by Ahmed Satomi, member representing Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State, the House called for a stronger and more coordinated security strategy across the country.
A member representing Kanke-Pankshin-Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Yusuf Gagdi emphasized that many Nigerians now live in fear due to the prevailing insecurity.

Also contributing, Ahmadu Jaha, member representing Damboa, Gwoza, and Chibok Federal Constituency of Borno State, noted that the security situation is fast deteriorating and must be addressed with all seriousness.

In a welcome address after the recess, Speaker of the House, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, reiterated the commitment of the Green Chamber to support all policies and programmes aimed at tackling insecurity in the country.
