SSANU REJECTS RESULT OF N5 BILLION SHARING FORMULA                                                                                             23-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU University of Ilorin branch has rejected the outcome of the Five billion Naira earned allowance sharing formula in public universities.

In a statement made available to Africa 247, Chairman of the branch, Comrade Naheem Falowo, stated that the allocation of Eighty percent to the academic staff and Twenty percent to the three other non teaching unions of SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union, NASU and National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT is a clear case of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

According to him, the template showed the kind of injustice being meted on the non teaching staff in the Nigeria public universities.

Comrade Falowo noted that the university is a system where no group can claim monopoly of superiority over the others in terms of productivity, performance and impact on the whole of the university system.

He further described the development as a gross injustice committed against the non teaching union members of the universities, which is unacceptable and unsatisfactory to all the three non teaching unions of public universities in Nigeria.

The Unilorin SSANU branch, therefore, called on the Federal Government, through the Minister of Education, to as a matter of necessity, call the sharing committee to order by addressing the matter.

It also called on all well meaning Nigerians and stakeholders in the public education to wade into the issue to prevent it from getting into fully blown crisis.

SSANU, however, commended the show of maturity and placidity displayed by its members across the country on this issue, describing it as a way of showing that they are lovers of their callings, despite provocations.

The Union acknowledged the efforts of its National President, Comrade Muhammed Ibrahim and the Vice President (West) Comrade Olayiwola Salaam for their remarkable resilience in dealing with the situation.
