By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Director General, National Agency for the Great Green Wall, Alhaji Sani Abubakar, says about nine hundred thousand people are to benefit with the Great Green Wall project in Kebbi State.

The Director General, stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after he inspected the benefiting communities in the five pilot local government areas of the state.

Represented by the Director Afforestation and Land Management of the agency, Ahmed Majidadi Bagudo, said the agency has achieved a lot of successes from the establishment of the agency by the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration in the state.

He revealed that, under the enhanced programme by the United Nations Environment facility Programme, Kebbi State was selected to have an intervention of three million United States dollars with the aim of improving the livelihood of the communities selected and to restore back the degraded Eco system.

According to him, five Local government areas out of the twenty one with three selected Communities are to benefit for the pilot scheme with emphasis on youth and women.

The Director General paid a courtesy visit to the state Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar, reaffirmed the state government commitment towards supporting the programme.

He also paid homage to the Royal father’s of Gwandu, Alhaji Ilyasu Bashar, Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera and as well the District Head of Kamba, Alhaji Mahmuda Jarumai where he solicited for their support to ensure the success of the programme.
