The Kano State Government, in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, has profiled 718 repentant youths under its Safe Corridor Project aimed at ending thuggery and violent crimes in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Waiya, said the initiative uses a non-kinetic approach to address insecurity by rehabilitating and reintegrating the youths. He noted that another 960 youths are awaiting profiling in the next phase.
According to him, the project targets gang violence, phone snatching, and drug-related crimes by offering rehabilitation and empowerment opportunities. Participants will undergo drug testing and rehabilitation through the NDLEA before receiving government support to rebuild their lives.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, commended the state government and urged communities to support security agencies in sustaining peace. Similarly, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Mr. Abubakar Idris, pledged support for the project, describing drug abuse as a key factor behind youth violence.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government and promised to embrace peaceful and productive living.
