JAMB TARGETS EXAM MALPRACTICE WITH TOUGH NEW MEASURES

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has received a report from its Special Committee on Examination Infractions, led by Dr. Jake Epelle, recommending strict measures to curb exam malpractice.

The committee revealed that malpractice has become a sophisticated, technology-driven business involving syndicates, CBT centres, schools, parents, and tutorial operators. Over 6,000 cases were uncovered, including fake biometric data, AI-assisted impersonation, forged credentials, and multiple NIN registrations.

To restore integrity, the report advised tougher sanctions such as result cancellations, bans, and prosecutions, while also pushing for AI-powered monitoring, legal reforms, ethics education, parental accountability, and rehabilitation for underage offenders.

The committee, inaugurated on August 18, 2025, emphasized that safeguarding Nigeria’s admission process requires detection, deterrence, and prevention.
