MORE RIVERS REPS DEFECT TO APC

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), deepening the wave of defections from the state to the governing party.

The lawmakers announced their defection in separate letters read on the floor of the House on Tuesday by the Speaker, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas. In the letters, they cited persistent internal crises and divisions within the PDP as the primary reason for their decision to leave the party.

They also said their move to the APC was guided by what they described as the party’s inclusive approach to governance under President Bola Tinubu, which they believe offers a more stable political platform.

The defecting lawmakers are Bob Solomon, Hart Cyril, Dekor Robinson, Blessings Amadi, Uche Felix and Victor Obuzor. Their defection comes just a week after four other lawmakers from Rivers State, elected on the platforms of the Labour Party and the PDP, also joined the APC.

With the latest development, the total number of Rivers State lawmakers who have defected to the APC in recent weeks has risen to ten. Only three opposition lawmakers from the state now remain in the House of Representatives, including the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda.
