PDP @27: CORNERSTONE OF NIGERIA DEMOCRACY
By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it remains a driving force for good governance, accountability, and citizens’ rights as it marks 27 years since its formation on August 31, 1998.
In a statement by the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Governor Bala Mohammed, the party reaffirmed its role in shaping Nigeria’s democracy since the transition from military rule, noting its vision for unity, reforms, and social justice.
The Forum recalled PDP’s 16 years in power, producing three presidents and implementing key reforms in telecommunications, banking, education, healthcare, and infrastructure policies that boosted the economy, created jobs, and reduced poverty.
It said the anniversary is both a reminder of PDP’s legacy and a call to renew its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and service to Nigerians.
