FG, IFDC PARTNER TO BOOST FERTILIZER ACCESS AND SOIL HEALTH

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) is partnering with the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) to make fertilizers more available, affordable, and accessible while improving soil health in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Africa Food System Forum in Dakar, Senegal, Minister Abubakar Kyari said the collaboration will provide technical support, strengthen local blending, curb adulteration, and promote climate-smart practices for smallholder farmers. He noted that the Nigeria Farmers Soil Health Scheme (NFSHS) will drive lasting change in line with President Tinubu’s food security agenda.

IFDC President Henk Van-Deepen added that the partnership will support soil testing, balanced nutrient use, farmer training, and transparent input markets. A technical committee has been set up to work out the details.
