TAF AFRICA MONITORS INEC’S INCLUSIVITY IN ANAMBRA ELECTION

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

TAF Africa says its mission in the Anambra Governorship Election is to assess INEC’s compliance with Section 54 (1 & 2) of the Electoral Act (2022), which mandates assistive tools and inclusive measures for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Speaking at a pre-election briefing in Awka, TAF Africa CEO, Jake Epelle, said the observation will provide evidence-based data on accessibility and voter experience for PWDs. He emphasized that inclusive elections strengthen democracy and ensure fairness for over 30 million Nigerians with disabilities.

Under its PWD Election Hub, TAF Africa deployed 150 trained observers across Anambra’s three senatorial districts, focusing on polling units with the highest number of registered PWD voters. These observers will monitor the availability of assistive tools such as Braille Ballot Guides, Magnifying Glasses, and Form EC 30E PWD for deaf voters.

TAF Africa’s interventions, including the PWD Election Hub, Third Eye, and sign language interpreter deployment, are supported by the European Union through the EU-SDGN II Programme.
