ADAMAWA JAIL DELIVERY COMMITTEE FREES 87 INMATES, CONVICTS 17

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee, led by Chief Judge Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, has freed 87 inmates and convicted 17 others after reviewing cases in four correctional centres. Six inmates were also granted bail as part of efforts to decongest facilities and uphold justice.

Many releases were based on health and other humanitarian grounds, while several sentences were reduced after reassessment of 81 cases involving offences such as theft and breach of trust.

Justice Abdulrahman urged the freed inmates to stay away from crime, warning that the law would be uncompromising if they returned to illegal activities. The committee also paid a courtesy visit to the Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Umaru Adamu Sanda, who praised their efforts.
