REPS INTERVENE IN DANGOTE, NMDPRA DISPUTE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources has stepped in to address rising tension between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The intervention follows public exchanges and allegations that have raised concerns within the downstream petroleum sector.

The committee has directed all parties to halt media engagements on the matter and has summoned the Dangote Group and NMDPRA leadership to appear before it to present their grievances. Lawmakers said the move is aimed at preventing further escalation and protecting recent gains in sector stability, especially in the post-subsidy era.

The committee noted that it has received petitions on key industry issues, including fuel import licences and the capacity of local refineries to meet national demand, assuring that all concerns will be thoroughly examined in the national interest.
