CAN URGES RENEWAL, RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AS NIGERIA ENTERS 2026

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for national renewal, restoration, and responsible leadership as the country begins 2026. In a New Year message, President Archbishop Daniel Okoh thanked God for preserving lives through a year of trials, acknowledging the hardships Nigerians faced in 2025, including rising costs, insecurity, and uncertainty.
CAN emphasized that the resilience of citizens reflects a need for healing and justice. The association urged leaders to prioritize dignity for families, hope for youth, and safety for communities, ensuring public policies serve the vulnerable and poor.
Highlighting displaced communities, CAN called for clear plans to restore homes and livelihoods. On economic reforms, the church stressed fairness and caution, warning that policies should not deepen hardships for low-income earners and small businesses.
Archbishop Okoh noted that Nigeria’s challenges are also moral, pointing to corruption, injustice, and division. He reaffirmed CAN’s commitment to stand with the people, speak truth with love, and uphold hope, expressing confidence that 2026 can bring healing, stability, and shared progress.
