By Sadiq Aminu                                                       The House of Representatives Committee on Hydrological Development and Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC has summoned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, the Minister of Water, Management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to appear before the Committee for clarifications of certain issues.
The invitation by the Committee followed some issues raised by the Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa during an interactive session with the Committee on Hydrological Development and Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC
The Chairman of the Committee Mr. Pascal Agbodike, explained that the invitation of the stakeholders to appear before the Committee becomes necessary in view of issues raised by HYPPADEC on some of the factors militating against the commission to effectively discharged their mandates.
Mr. Agbodike, emphasized that just like host communities of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, were getting some benefits, HYPPADEC Communities should get the same treatment to help reduce the impact of environmental challenges caused by Hydrological factors
The Managing Director Of HYPPADEC Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, pointed out that, the new electricity amendment act will make much impact in addressing the plights of host communities as well as benefits from power generating companies.
Mr. Yelwa, expressed concern that lack of adequate funding of HYPPADEC has hindered the commission from effectively carrying out its responsibilities.
