PDP CRISIS FURTHER DEEPENED AS TWO PRINCIPAL FIGURES ISSUE COUNTER NOTICES FOR MEETING 02-07-25
By Sadiq Aminu. The ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has further deepened as two principal figures, Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary and Taofeek Arapaja, the Deputy National Chairman South have issued counter notices for meetings, one for expanded national caucus, the other for National Executive Committee, NEC meeting.
Senator Anyanwu had earlier issued a notice for an expanded special national caucus meeting of the party, for today instead of the earlier scheduled NEC meeting.
This was however in defiance of an earlier decision by members of the party at the 99th NEC meeting of 27th May, to hold the 100th NEC today.
Chief Arapaja, while addressing journalists at the party secretariat, urged the party members to ignore Anyanwu’s statement.
National Working Committee, NWC members led by Arapaja and the Board of Trustees , BoT, had earlier insisted that it would go ahead with the scheduled NEC meeting.
But Anyanwu, had in the statement, invited Stakeholders to a Special Expanded National Caucus Meeting.
Anyanwu listed those invited to include Statutory Members of National Caucus, Deputy National Officers, members of the party’s Board of Trustees BoT, State Chairmen, Members of PDP National Assembly Caucus, former NWC members Still in the Party, and all national Ex-Officio Members.
Anyanwu also extended invitation to PDP former Governors and all the immediate Past Governorship Candidates, who are still in the party.
But Arapaja, while addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday night insisted that the party will go on with the “100th meeting of the NEC statutorily scheduled for today.
Soon after, the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar
Damagum issued a statement pointing out that he is the chief executive officer of the party and explained that thr 100Th NEC is Still Postponed For Statutory Reasons and not as an affront to Decision of the 99Th NEC.
He maintained that an expanded National Caucus would hold today.
Meanwhile the National publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Debo Ologunagba has issued a notice for a NEC meeting at 1pm for the same Wadata house Wuse venue, where the Damagun camp issued a notice for a caucus meeting for 2pm.
