SAVE THE CHILDREN TO EDUCATE 29 THOUSAND OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN IN KATSINA………….

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Save the Children is set to enroll over 29,000 out-of-school children in Katsina State under its “Education Can’t Wait” program. The initiative aims to tackle illiteracy and ensure no child is left behind in accessing quality education.

During a joint monitoring visit in Mashi, the Program Manager, Altine Lewi, said over 30,000 children, including in-school students, parents, and community members, have already been reached.

Learners received educational materials and hygiene kits (soap, toothpaste, brushes, etc.), which increased participation.

Despite some challenges, the program thrives with the support of traditional and religious leaders, and partnerships with government and communities are strengthening education systems.

Mashi District Head, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim, praised the effort and called for a 2-year extension of the program. He also urged the government to ensure its sustainability.

Volunteer teachers received training and a ₦30,000 allowance. The local education authority confirmed that lessons have already started in selected centers.

Leaders encouraged teachers to mentor students and called on students to stay focused for a brighter future.
