REPS INAUGURATE AD-HOC COMMITTEE TO TACKLE BORDER INSECURITY

By:Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The House of Representatives has inaugurated an Ad-hoc Committee on Border Security to address Nigeria’s rising cross-border crimes and strengthen national security.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Minority Whip Ali Jessy, reaffirmed the House’s commitment to ensuring peace and safety for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity or religion. He emphasized that insecurity is not driven by religion or tribe but by the misuse of border routes for smuggling, human trafficking, and other illicit activities.

Committee Chairman Alhaji Isa Anka pledged to develop practical strategies to secure Nigeria’s borders and restore public trust in the country’s security system.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, called for an urgent review of border security laws, improved funding, and stronger inter-agency coordination to curb cross-border threats and protect the nation’s territorial integrity.
