WORLD TEACHER’S DAY: ONDO STATE EXTENDS TEACHERS RETIREMENT AGE 05-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu In Ondo State, the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB has announced a new retirement age for teachers put at 65 years or 40 years in service depending on the one which comes first.
Making the announcement in Akure on the occasion of World Teachers Day , SUBEB Chairman, Mr Victor Olabimtan said it was done to appreciate teachers as makers of building blocks for every societal development.
He then called for a return to the status quo where teachers contributions were duly appreciated.
Mr Olabimtan disclosed that Ondo State government made it a priority to continue recruiting qualified teachers in line with this year’s theme ,” The Teacher We Need For The Education We Want : The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.
The SUBEB boss admonished the teachers to continue to deliver on their mandate considering government’s huge investment in the sector with an assurance of better welfare packages and conditions of service.
The World Teachers Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation , UNESCO, on 5th October, 1994 to pay annual tribute to educators who play pivotal role in shaping the future.
