KNSG TO ADDRESS DECLINE IN TERTIARY ENROLLMENT ACROSS RURAL AREAS 17-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu Kano state government (KNSG), says it would map out policies and programs, aimed at improving enrollment of students in tertiary institutions, based in rural areas.
The Special Adviser to the governor on higher education, Professor Auwalu Halilu Arzai, made the disclosure during a familiarization visit, to the School of rural technology and entrepreneurship development, Rano local government area.
According to him, despite the state government’s provision of infrastructure, manpower, and conducive learning environments, there is minimal patronage of schools in rural areas.
The special adviser pointed out that,the School of rural technology has been in existence for over 40 years, but the number of students, remains significantly low.
Professor Auwalu reaffirmed KNSGs commitment in collaborating with the Office of the head of civil service, to encourage workers willing to advance their education, to consider enrolling in higher institutions, in rural areas to bridge this gap.
The director school of rural technology and enterprenuership development Rano, Sulaiman Hashim, commended governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritizing education at all levels.
He identified challenges bedevilling the school such as low students population, dilapidated hostels, and and fencing, among others.
Sulaiman, advised parents to consider enrolling their children in the college, to move education forward.
During the visit, the Special Adviser interacted with academic staff and inspected the facilities.
