By Sadiq Aminu                                                             The Minister of Interior Mr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo says the ministry is committed toward addressing the challenges of welfare of correctional Officers and that of inmates through collaboration with other sister services for optimal productivity.

The Minister of Interior stated this during the passing out Parade of the 29th Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, ASC Basic Course International, at the Correctional Service Staff College, Barnawa Kaduna.

Represented by the immediate past Controller General of Corrections Ja’afaru Ahmed, the minister who congratulated the graduating officers, said it was one of the numerous courses that they would undergo in the course of their career.

Olubunmi Tunji assured the Cadet Officers that the ministry was working in conjunction with Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB to strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Correctional Service to boost their Operational Capacity.

He said, their graduation came at the time when the country has just witnessed a political Transition with Bola Tinubu as the president, and expressed optimism that he was putting in place policies and programs to address the challenges facing the Service and the Country at large.

The interior minister urged the Correctional Officers to remain patriotic and diligent in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities, noting that their input would be needed in tackling the numerous security and other socio-economic challenges facing the Country.

In the area of synergy with other countries within the west African sub-region, he pointed out that it was the tradition of the Nigerian Prison then, and the Nigerian Correctional Service to train officers from Sierra Leone, Gambia and South Sudan to strengthen security via exchange of ideas to promote regional development.

High point of the graduation ceremony was the award of excellence to distinguished graduands on drill, leadership, academics and behavior.

Two hundred and thirteen, 213 Cadet Officers including five, 5 contingencies from the republic of Gambia graduated from the six months Basic Course International at the Correctional Service Staff College Barnawa, Kaduna.
