NO RANSOM WAS PAID TO FREE ABDUCTED FUDMA STUDENT’S – VC 30-11-23
By Sadiq Aminu The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dustinma in Katsina State, Professor Armya’u Bichi says no ransom was paid to secure the release of one of the abducted female students of the institution who were abducted last month.
He gave the clarification at a news briefing held at the take-off campus of the university, ahead of the 7th and 8th combined Convocation Ceremony of the institution.
Professor Bichi narrated that after frantic efforts by the university management and security agencies, the kidnappers took the student to a village in Zamfara State where they released her.
He also denied rumours that one of these students had died in captivity, noting that he communicates regularly on phone with the remaining four students as efforts are on top gear to rescue them.
Professor Bichi said he recently held a meeting with the National Security Adviser who has assured him that more military, police and other security personnel will be deployed to the Permanent Site of the university to ensure the safety of students and other members of the university community.
Meanwhile, the convocation ceremony which will be held on Saturday will be preceded by pre-convocation lecture to be delivered by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril, on Friday.
A total of 4,365 First Degree students will be convoked out of whom 112 graduated with First Class honours and 1,131 with Second Class Upper.
Similarly, another set of 401 Postgraduate students will also be convoked among whom are 11 PhDs, 168 Academic Masters, 75 Professional Masters and 149 Postgraduate Diploma graduates.
