KWARA STATE GOVERNMENT CONFISCATES ALL SUSPECTED POISONOUS MEAT AT THE POPULAR MANDATE MARKET IN ILORIN                                                                                20-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Kwara State Government has confiscated all suspected poisonous meat at the popular Mandate Market, Ilorin.

This followed reports that dead cows were slaughtered for sale after thirty-three cows were reported dead due to suspected poisonous substances along Atere road, same axis as Mandate Market.

A civil society group known as Kwara Monitoring Group had earlier sent out a virtual message calling on the Kwara State Government to urgently step into matter before unsuspected residents consume deadly meat.

The Government’s team thereafter swung into action as it began a fact-finding mission to arrest the situation.

On the Government’s team were Commissioner for Health, Commissioner for Environment, veterinary experts and top officials from the Ministries of Health, Environment and related agencies.

A statement jointly signed by Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam and Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Adebayo-Thomas indicated that the confiscated meat had been taken for laboratory tests.

The Statement appeals to residents to remain calm as the outcome of the tests is being awaited.
