By Sadiq Aminu                                                               Officials of the National Association of Road Transport Owners NARTO have been advised to continue to educate their members on the dangers of taking drugs while driving on the road.

Niger state Governor Mohammed Umar Bago gave the advice at the inauguration of newly elected officials of Niger state chapter of the Association held in Minna the state capital.

Represented by his Deputy Comrade Yakubu Garba the Governor said this would helped to safeguard lives and properties of passengers in addition to improving and enhancing the economy of Nigeria.

He described the new Chairman of NARTO Niger state chapter Alh Usman Hassan Shiroro as a transparent and trustworthy person while calling on members to desist from destruction by giving him all the necessary support needed to succeed.

In his remarks the National President of NARTO Alh Yusuf Lawal Othman appealed to the Federal Government to ensure that all the Federal roads in Niger state are either constructed, reconstructed or maintained properly for free movement of goods and services from Northern parts of Nigeria to Eastern and Southern parts of the country.

Represented by the National Operation Coordinator Alh Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya  the NARTO National President also advocated for Federal Government intervention to ensure that abandoned Federal road from Mokwa to Bisi down to Tegina, Pandogari in Niger state and Birnin Gwari in Kaduna state become fully operational by providing security and maintainance of the road to reduce pressure of trucks going to Northern part of Nigeria from Bida to Minna to such roads.

He however implored the Federal Government to have a good road from Abuja to Minna passing Zungeru to Tegina through Mariga down to Kontagora, Rijau and up to Sokoto state in addition to the rehabilitation of a fifteen kilometer road from Bida, Lapai to Agaie to reduce overstretching the Minna Bida road which is a state road.

In his acceptance speech the newly inaugurated NARTO Chairman Niger state chapter Alh Usman Hassan Shiroro promised to be fair and just in the discharge of his responsibility and also operate an open door policy of administration to achieve greater heights.
