FGN TO ADOPT TECHNOLOGY TO END FARMERS HERDER’S CLASH 10-07-24
By Sadiq Aminu The federal government says it will adopt the use of technology to improve livestocks production and end Farmers herder’s clashes in the country.
Minister of state for Agriculture and food security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi made the disclosure while speaking at the official Flagg-off of National Animal Identification and Traceability System organised by Kwara state government in collaboration with the state Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) held in Ilorin.
The minister said the initiative would also improve animal health and productivity.
Dr Abdullahi said the renewed hope agenda of the present administration has demonstrated the government intention to develop Livestock sector.
He explained that the project will mitigate cattle rustling, reduce clashes, and improve the means of livelihood of livestock farmer.
Dr. Abdullahi urged state government to provide incentives to livestock Farmers to enable them key into the programme.
In his address, Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazq who was represented by his senior Adviser, Alhaji Sa’adu Salawu said the initiative would end the perennial farmers herders clashes.
AbdulRazq the state government will provide the necessary support to develop the livestock value chain.
In her remark the Director Animal Husbandry Services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food security,Dr.Winnie Lai -Solarin , represented by Mr Eliojo Joseph said the initiative will reduce animal movement and prevent clashes.
She said the technology to be adopted in numbering the animals is user’s friendly.
In his address the Jawro and Kwara state Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, Alhaji Ali Muhammed appealed to government at all levels to carry along Fulani herders in projects that concerns them to ensure its success.
In his comments the project Coordinator, Kwara state livestock productivity and Resilience Support Project, Mr Olusoji Oyawoye expressed confidence that the programme will improve the state and national economy.
