RESIDENT DOCTORS IN KWARA STATE, APPEAL TO FG TO SECURE THE RELEASE of THEIR MEMBER, GANIYAT POPOOLA 17-08-24
By Sadiq Aminu Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors, in Kwara State, have appealed to the Federal Government to secure the release of one of their members, Ganiyat Popoola, who has been in captivity for over seven months.
They made the appeal during a protest at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, in Oke Oyi.
President of the Association, Dr Yusuf Muhammad Jamiu said the protest was necessary to register their grievances against the continued detention of Doctor Ganiyat by her abductors and silence by the authority.
Dr Muhammad Jamiu stated that the national body of the Association had already given the Federal Government two weeks to secure the release of Doctor Ganiyat Popoola or face industrial action in the health sector.
He explained that insecurity is one of the major reasons for brain-drain in the health sector.
Addressing the protesters, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Professor S.A Biliaminu, sympathized with them and promised to deliver their message to the relevant authority for appropriate action.
The protesters who moved round the hospital premises in their numbers, carried placards with inscriptions such as “A daughter, a mother, a sister, wife, colleague missing for seven months,”. “we desperately need your help to bring her home safely,” “Help save Dr Ganiyat Popoola,” and so on.
