ANSIEC REDUCES NOMINATION FEES FOR LG ELECTIONS, RESPECTS COURT ORDER                                                                       13-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has announced a reduction in nomination fees for the upcoming local government elections, following a court directive.

The commission’s Chairman, Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, made the announcement at a press briefing in Kano.

He said chairmanship candidates will now pay N9 million, while councillorship aspirants will pay N4 million.

The fee reduction comes after a court ruling in favor of three political parties that challenged KANSIEC’s initial decision to charge N10 million for chairmanship forms.

“Despite some states charging up to N20 million, Kano’s commission has complied with the court’s directive.”

Professor Malumfashi also acknowledged the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties to contest in the elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining democratic principles and focusing on pressing issues like energy, climate change, and the high cost of living.

The KANSIEC Chairman urged the media to play a vital role in supporting the electoral process as critical stakeholders, ensuring a free and fair election.

Professor Malumfashi solicited the support of journalist and other stakeholders with a view to achieve the set objectives.
