By Sadiq Aminu                                                             The Labour Party Caucus in the National Assembly has kicked against the move by Anambra State Governor, professor Charles Soludo’s proposed joint State and Local Government account law.
The Caucus in a media briefing in Abuja said the move was to circumvent the Supreme Court’s ruling on Local Government financial autonomy.
The leader of the Caucus, Senator Tony Nwoye who urged the Anambra State House of Assembly to reject the bill which is currently at the committee stage, argued that the proposed law contradicts the 1999 Constitution.
According to the Caucus passing this law would financially strangle Local Governments and undermines the local government from carrying out its constitutional function as the the tier of government.
The Caucus also cautioned Anambra State Assembly members to consider their legacy and the supreme judgment which upheld Financial autonomy for Local Government.

The House Deputy Minority Whip pointed out that if the bill scale through it will undermines the Nigeria’s constitution considering the recent judgement by the nation’s appex Court which overrides any other law.
While urging Governor Charles Soludo to retrace his steps, the Caucus reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Nigerians are provided with dividends of democracy at all levels.
