PENSIONERS’ UNION COMMENDS GOVERNOR ZULUM FOR N3B GRATUITY PAYMENT                                                                                   18-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Borno State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners has commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the release of N3 billion towards the payment of gratuity and other entitlements to the families of deceased workers.

At a media briefing in Maiduguri, the chairman of the union, Alhaji Musa Kukawa, highlighted that this is the second time Governor Zulum’s administration has allocated a significant sum to settle outstanding benefits for families of deceased pensioners.

Kukawa noted that the gesture has instilled renewed hope among pensioners in the state.

“Today marks a turning point of happiness and appreciation for state pensioners, especially the families of deceased workers, following the recent release of N3 billion for their gratuity and entitlements,” Kukawa stated.

He further urged the governor to review the monthly pensions across the state, pointing out that some pensioners still receive less than N5,000 per month.

The Chairman also called for similar support to be extended to workers at the local government level.

“The union will continue to appeal to His Excellency to fulfill his promise of reviewing pension rates upward, as many pensioners are struggling with less than N5,000 monthly in the face of current economic hardship,” he added.

Meanwhile, the National Vice President for the North East zone, Comrade Mohammed Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the governor for previously releasing N12 billion for retired workers’ gratuities.

Permanent Secretary for Pensions, Alhaji Mustapha Garba, represented by the Director of State Pensions, Abba Abuna, assured the union of the board’s commitment to work closely with them to ensure prompt payment of pensioners’ benefits.
