GOVERNOR BAGO PLEDGES ₦1 BILLION, 50 TRUCKLOADS OF GRAINS, AND ₦7 BILLION ROAD PROJECT FOR MOKWA FLOOD VICTIMS

Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced a comprehensive relief and infrastructure package for victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area, comprising a ₦1 billion donation, 50 truckloads of assorted grains, and a ₦7 billion road and bridge construction project.
Bago made the announcements on Monday during an on-site assessment of the flood’s devastation, which resulted in the destruction of several homes and properties.
Addressing residents, Governor Bago emphasized the importance of avoiding construction near waterways to prevent future tragedies. He expressed sympathy for the victims and assured them that all donations from the federal government, individuals, and donor agencies would be managed transparently and utilized solely for their benefit.
In a significant infrastructure development aimed at long-term flood prevention and improved connectivity, the governor announced the immediate award of a ₦7 billion contract for the construction of the Mokwa Rabba road, including three new bridges along the route. “The contract has been awarded today,” he stated.
To further alleviate the hardship faced by displaced residents, Bago also donated 50 truckloads of assorted grains to support affected families.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a permanent drainage system and durable concrete bridges in the region to mitigate future flood risks.
Governor Bago expressed gratitude to the government, individuals, and organizations that have extended support to the victims and promised continued efforts to resettle those directly and indirectly impacted by the disaster.
He also urged Islamic scholars to maintain proper documentation of pupils under their care to facilitate emergency response in crisis situations.
The visit concluded with prayers for the repose of the souls lost to the flood.
