BORNO STATE GOVERNMENT PRESENTS A CHEQUE OF #300M TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF FLOOD DISASTER IN MOKWA LGA OF NIGER STATE                                                                              10-06-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Borno State Government has presented a cheque of three hundred million naira to support the victims of the flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

Presenting the cheque to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna, Governor Zulum called on sub-nationals to come up with effective ways of tackling flood to avert persistent loss of lives and sources of livelihoods.

Since the last week’s unfortunate flood in Mokwa, many delegations ranging from federal, National and State Assemblies as well as civil society organisations have continued to troop in to sympathise with the people and Government of Niger State over the incident.

The recent delegation is that of the Borno State Government led by Governor Babagana Zulum accompanied by members of the National Assembly from Borno State.

Governor Zulum said the effect of flooding affects both the victims and the Government as such, the donation was a token from the State Government to assist the victims.

He observed that the much talked about Climate Change is real in view of the Rise in Sea levels which is resulting in high volume of rains being experienced in the country in recent times.

Governor Zulum opined that with effective strategies by Sub nationals the disaster can be mitigated to avert persistent loss of lives and sources of livelihoods.

Also in his condolence message, a former Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has appealed to people to desist from building houses close to water canals to avoid fallen victims to water related disasters..

Leading members of the State Peoples Democratic Party Dr Babangida Aliyu expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and families of the victims.

He explained that though there are natural causes, the huge casualties from the Mokwa flood are recorded due to failure to adhere to warnings from the authorities concerned.

In a reaction, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago appreciated the Borno state Government for the donation which he said would be delivered to the victims judiciously.

He also appreciated all donors for their support to the victims.
