CUSTOMS HANDS OVER $5.3M VANDALIZED POWER CABLES, SUSPECTS TO CIVIL DEFENCE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has handed over four suspects and vandalised power cables worth $5.3 million to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano.

The suspects were arrested during a patrol on September 11, with 13 bundles of high-voltage aluminium conductors, firewood used as cover, and a disguised vehicle. Cutting tools, documents, and ₦250,000 cash were also recovered.

Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dalhat Abubakar, said the act denied communities water and electricity, warning that vandalism of critical infrastructure endangers lives and disrupts services.

He stressed the need for strong collaboration among agencies and public vigilance. NSCDC Kano Commandant, Bala Bawa Bodinga, assured that investigations will be thorough and justice will be served.
