GOV DIRI SEEKS FAIR RECRUITMENT POLICY FOR BAYELSA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has urged the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and other federal agencies to review their recruitment policies to ensure fairness and equity among states.

Represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Governor Diri made the call when the Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Zone G, Mrs. Abolupe Oladoyin Bewaji, visited him in Yenagoa.

He lamented that Bayelsa is often disadvantaged in federal recruitment because it has only eight local government areas, the fewest in the country. He described the system as unfair and called for special consideration for the state in future recruitment exercises.

Governor Diri also appealed to the Immigration Service to establish a passport printing centre in Bayelsa to save time and reduce costs for residents.

He commended the Ministry of Interior and the NIS leadership for their ongoing reforms and pledged the state’s readiness to partner with the Service, especially in strengthening border and marine operations.
