SHORTAGE OF SKILLED PROFESSIONALS HINDERS AVIATION GROWTH — KEYAMO

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has raised concerns over the shortage of skilled professionals in Nigeria’s aviation sector, particularly air traffic controllers.

Speaking in Abuja at the unveiling of the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Keyamo said the new institution would help bridge the skill gap and boost manpower development in the industry.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting private initiatives that promote national development, noting that the sector was forced to retain retired experts on contract due to the shortage of trained personnel.

Founder of the university, Isaac Balami, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the school, pledging to produce globally competitive professionals.

The Director-General of the NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, assured of collaboration with the university in curriculum design, safety management, and regulatory training.
