NAMA MOVES FAST, RESTORES SAFETY AFTER LAGOS AIRPORT FIRE

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has assured passengers and airlines that Nigeria’s airspace remains safe following a fire incident at the Lagos international airport. The Managing Director of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Ahmed Farouk, said emergency systems were swiftly activated after the blaze disrupted primary air-to-ground communication at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Farouk explained that although inbound flights were briefly suspended as a precaution, backup infrastructure was quickly deployed, ensuring uninterrupted air traffic control services. He praised NAMA engineers and operational staff for their rapid response, noting that work is ongoing to deploy a mobile control tower within 48 hours to fully stabilise operations.
He stressed that safety remains NAMA’s top priority, adding that a full assessment of the damage is underway while normal flight operations continue without risk.
