NDLEA ARRESTS 363 SUSPECTS, RECOVERS 495.166 KILOGRAMS OF NARCOTICS IN KWARA STATE                                                                                                                           21-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA)Kwara state Command has arrested three hundred and sixty three (363) suspects and recovered 495.166 kilograms of Narcotics between January and June this year.

The state Commander of the agency, Mohammed Ibrahim made the disclosure while briefing Newsmen on the activities lined up ahead of the command drug week programme in Ilorin.

According to him the command has also intercepted 61.5 liters of schoches and over 50liters of Codeine based syrup.

Commander Ibrahim said out of the suspects arrested 317 are male while 46 are female.

He explained that during the period the command has secured 75 convictions with 35 cases pending.

The NDLEA commander said under the commands drug demand reduction programme over ten clients have been admitted with eight discharged.

He noted that the successes recorded was due to the commitment of the officers of the command and support from other stakeholders.

Ibrahim said the drug demand reduction supported by the state government across the sixteen local government areas of the state has also yielded good results.

The NDLEA commander maintained that during the week long programme about twenty schools would be engaged and educated on the dangers of drugs abuse among students.

He said security agencies, traditional leaders and other stakeholders within the communities would also be trained on how to handle issues relating drug abuse.

In her remarks the Chairperson, Kwara state Drug Control Committee, Pharmacist Barakat Olanrewaju said the committee would continue to collaborate with the command to reduce drug abuse to the minimum.

Earlier in his address, Special Assistant to Kwara state governor on drug abuse prevention and control, Aleiro Olamilekan said the state government will support the introduction of a drug control policy to reduce drug abuse.

He said both secondary and tertiary institution would be carried along in the implementation of the policy to ensure its effectiveness.
