281 CONVICTED FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES IN ABUJA MOBILE COURT……..

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A total of 281 motorists have been convicted for committing 605 traffic offences along the Abuja–Nyanya corridor within one week.

The convictions followed the ongoing Operation Restore Sanity II, conducted by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, said the operation was introduced to curb rising traffic indiscipline, particularly route violations, overloading, and driving without licences, which accounted for the highest number of offenders.

The special Mobile Court session, presided over by Maryam Muazu-Alhaji, also sentenced six offenders to between two and six days of community service at the FRSC Nyanya Unit Command and the Mambilla Barracks.

In addition, three offenders were referred to the non-custodial unit of the Nigerian Correctional Service for counselling sessions lasting between three and six hours.

Mr. Theman noted that the exercise is part of wider efforts to restore order and ensure safer road use in the Federal Capital Territory.
