DHQ CLARIFIES THAT IT HAS NOT APPOINTED ANY SENIOR OFFICER AS ACTING CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF                                                                                                                 20-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Defence Headquarters has clarified that it has not announced the appointment of any senior officer as acting Chief of Army Staff, COAS, contrary to speculation by certain media outlets.

The Defence Headquarters says, no such appointment as “acting Chief of Army Staff” exists within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is currently on a well-deserved rest as part of his 2024 annual leave.

The document while cautioning on the spread of unfounded rumours says, the COAS is hail and hearty and will soon resume normal duties at the end of his leave.

According to the statement, as of press time, “the CDS had only spoken with the COAS a few minutes ago”.

The Defence Headquarters has also warned those advocating a military takeover, as seen in a viral video, to be aware that such actions are treasonable under the Constitution.
