MARINE AND BLUE ECONOMY MINISTRY GETS NATIONAL POLICY                                                                                                         13-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The Minister Marine and Blue Economy ministry Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, says Nigeria’s maritime domain holds immense potential for the economic growth of the country.

Mr Oyetola made the remark at a final
validation workshop on the development of the National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy.

He stated that many African countries are intensifying their cooperation to enhance knowledge of the blue economy and adopt policies that will unlock its vast potential.

Oyetola observed that a key factor in driving maritime development is the establishment of a strong policy framework.

“This engagement aims to refine our priorities and solidify a framework for advancing the maritime sector over the next few years.

“It will pave the way for a flourishing sector that prioritizes sustainability, with a unified commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in the global blue economy.

The Chairman House of Representatives committee on marine safety, education and administration, Mrs Khadija Bukar-Abba, revealed that the house is considering some bills key to the Marine and Blue economy sector.

This she said includes the NIMASA amendment Bill 2024, the Cabotage amendment Bill 2024, the Merchant shipping review and re-enactment Bill 2024, and the maritime zones Bill 2024.

The Permanent Secretary Mr Olufemi Oloruntola, said the policy will foster investment, drive innovation, and create new opportunities for Nigerians, while protecting the fragile ecosystems that support coastal and marine life.
