FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS GRANTED PROVISIONAL LICENSE TO TWO NEW PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES                                                                                          22-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       The Federal Government has granted provisional licenses to two new private universities.
They are light house University, Edo State and African School of Economics, FCT, Abuja.

At the presentation of the licences in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman said the federal government was committed to bridging the gap for the high demand for university education.

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman said that as the number of youths yearning for quality university education increase, there was the need for Nigerian universities to meet the carrying capacity.
He explained that the Federal Government would continue to collaborate with the private sector to enhance education.

The Minister however warned that the licence of any university that defaults in standards would be withdrawn.
Professor Mamman therefore urged the new universities to prioritize skills and entrepreneurship for the development of the country.

The Acting Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, NUC, Mr. Chris Maiyaki assured the institutions that the Commission would play its mentoring role to ensure that they succeed.
The two new universities would be issued substantive licenses after three years, if they meet the required standards
With this approval, the total number of universities in Nigeria is now two hundred and seventy-four.
