YOBE STATE EMBARKS ON OPEN BUDGET CONSULTATION FOR 2025 04-10-24
By Sadiq Aminu Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has declared open, a town hall meeting and consultative process with citizens to gather input for the state’s 2025 annual budget.
The event, held at the Cultural Center Damaturu, was organized by Yobe State Ministry of Budget in partnership with ActionAid, World Food Programme, and other developmental partners, has brought together Civil Society Organizations, Media representatives, and policy makers to discuss budget allocation and priorities.
The meeting, themed “Providing Accountability to Affected Population (AAP) and Good Governance,” underscores the state government’s commitment to transparency and citizen engagement.
Governor Buni, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, emphasized the importance of public participation in achieving a successful budget formulation and implementation process.
“The state has always maintained an open door policy in conducting its activities, which serves as a strong basis of mutual understanding between the people and the government,” stated Governor Buni, highlighting the administration’s dedication to inclusivity.
The participation of various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and vulnerable members of the society, is seen as a testament to the government’s commitment to involving all sectors in the budgetary process.
Yobe State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mohammed Garba Gagiyo, emphasized the importance of active participation from all attendees, assuring them that their contributions would be taken into account during budget planning.
ActionAid Nigeria’s Humanitarian and Resilience Manager, David Habba, expressed the organization’s commitment to working collaboratively with the World Food Programme and the Yobe State Ministry of Budget and Planning to address the challenges faced by communities. He stressed the importance of considering not only material needs but also protection and social cohesion in development initiatives.
“By sharing your challenges, you enable the state to better understand the needs of your communities and to advocate for solutions that are not only effective but also respectful of your dignity and rights,” Habba stated.
The meeting provides a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and offer recommendations that will inform the budget planning process. Their insights will play a crucial role in shaping the state’s development priorities and ensuring that the 2025 budget effectively addresses the needs and aspirations of the Yobe State community.
