ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNOR SIGNS THE 2025 APPROPRIATION BILL OF N546 BILLION INTO LAW 18-12-24
By Sadiq Aminu Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has signed the 2025 appropriation bill of N546 billion into law, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to completing ongoing projects and advancing its Rescue Agenda.
Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a press statement on Thursday, following the budget’s presentation by the Zamfara state house of assembly speaker at the council chamber of the government house, Gusau.
The budget, titled “Rescue Budget 2.0,” is designed to address critical areas such as security, education, health, infrastructure, and agriculture. Governor Lawal emphasized the need to build on the successes of the past 18 months while overcoming a legacy of poor governance that had left the state with economic challenges, unpaid wages, and a decayed infrastructure.
Reflecting on the state’s challenges, Dauda remarked, “A decade of poor governance led to economic collapse, unpaid wages for civil servants, and liabilities that hindered children’s education. Infrastructure was damaged, hospitals were abandoned, and public services became bloated. If we had not acted swiftly to all the challenges, Zamfara State would not be a place we all could live in today.”
The governor noted that the 2025 budget allocates 72% to capital expenditure and 28% to recurrent expenditure, ensuring substantial resources for developmental projects. Key initiatives include the completion of the Gusau International Airport, the construction of the Gusau-Magami to Dansadau Road, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art diagnostic center.
Other notable projects include upgrading the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital to a teaching hospital, constructing additional structures in several general hospitals, and building roads and schools under various programs. The budget also addresses food security through the Fadama III program and provides shelters for internally displaced persons under the Solid program.
In a move to enhance workers’ welfare, the budget accounts for a significant increase in the minimum wage for civil servants, raising it from N30,000 to N70,000.
Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s resolve to implement policies that will uplift the state’s economy, improve public services, and provide a foundation for sustainable development.
