PRESIDENT TINUBU SAYS HE REMAINS COMMITTED TO AN UNINTERRUPTED ACADEMIC CALENDAR IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES                                                                                                                                 21-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                     The president, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Yusuf Sununu, stated this in his speech as visitor to the 39th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Ilorin.

He noted that government is aware of the depleting staff strength in Nigerian universities, hence the waiver granted for recruitment of more staff members to replace those who have left their services as a result of death, retirement or resignation.

The president also appealed to staff members of the nation’s Universities to always give peace a chance in their negotiations for better welfare, stressing that the universities, just as the entire nation, needs peace to ensure prosperity.

President Tinubu added that as part of efforts to sustain the university education, government has effected the payment of four months of the previously withheld salaries of academic staff of universities as well as payment of the withheld salaries of the non-teaching staff of the universities.

In a remark, Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, noted that education is the foundation of any striving society and reminded the graduands that they have been equiped with tools to contribute to Nigeria and the rest of the world.

Governor Abdulrazaq, represented by the Chairman, Kwara State Universal Education Board, SUBEB, Professor Shehu Adaramaja, congratulated them, assuring that that his administration remains committed to youth
development.

The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, admonished the graduands to see their degrees as a comfortable ground to stand and compete globally.

The overall graduating student, Ayodeji Adesanya and his fellow graduands, Jessica Yekini and Ephraim Orimolade, said their education journey at the university of Ilorin became successful through hard -work, dedication and God’s guidance.
