By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 As the world marks 16 days of activism to eliminate violence against women, Hajiya Mairo Bello, Executive Director of Adolescent Health and Information Projects (AHIP), has emphasized the need for long-term investments in policies, strategies, and resources to protect women.

She notes that violence against women and girls remains a pervasive human rights violation worldwide.

To address this, Hajiya Mairo advocates for government support and resources, including domesticating gender policies, equal education and job opportunities, vocational training, and entrepreneurship skills to mitigate violence against women.

Hajiya Mairo also highlights the importance of an adequate legal framework to reduce domestic violence.

She said, her organization, AHIP, has been engaging women and youths in skills acquisition, empowerment programs, sports, and moral and education development to drive positive change.

The executive director encourages women to develop themselves through education and entrepreneurship skills according to global standards.

This call to action aligns with the theme of the 2024 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: “Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls
