PDP REPS URGE NJC TO STOP JUDICIAL INTERFERENCE IN PARTY AFFAIRS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to caution judges against being used by desperate politicians to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement by Caucus Leader Fred Agbedi, the lawmakers expressed concern over increasing judicial involvement in party affairs, warning that it threatens the nation’s democratic stability.

The reaction followed a recent ruling by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who refused to stop the PDP’s convention but declared that any action taken by the party while the suit was pending would be null and void.

The Caucus described the pronouncement as a “backdoor attempt” to disrupt PDP activities and prevent the party from presenting candidates in the 2027 elections. They accused certain judges of aiding anti-democratic forces despite Supreme Court warnings against such interference.

They called on the NJC to act swiftly to protect Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and prevent further abuse of judicial power.
