NASARAWA RESIDENT DOCTORS THREATEN STRIKE OVER UNMET DEMANDS

Resident doctors in Nasarawa State are preparing to resume an indefinite strike if the Federal Government does not meet their demands by Monday, January 12, 2026. Dr Jude Yekpowudu, President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, said the decision followed the government’s failure to act on longstanding issues, including unpaid professional allowances, salary harmonisation, and career level adjustments for doctors.
Dr Yekpowudu explained that the doctors had repeatedly suspended industrial action to give the government time to respond, but none of their 19 demands have been addressed. He warned that unless there is meaningful engagement, the nationwide strike will go ahead, with Nasarawa doctors fully complying with the directive of the national leadership.
