HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES URGES POLICE TO SUSPEND ENFORCEMENT OF BAN ON TINTED VEHICLES                                                                                                                       10-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Capital Territory Police Command to suspend the enforcement of the ban on tinted glasses and covered number plates with a grace of ninety days to enable motorists and FCT residents comply with the regulations concerning tinted glasses and number plates.
The House in urgent motion of Public importance sponsored by the member representing Ilorin West Asa Federal Constituency of Kwara State,Tolani Shagaya, the Green Chamber expressed concerns over the harassment of motorists and inconvenience to law-abiding citizens in the course of enforcing the ban.
According to Mr. Shagaya, motorists and the FCT residents have not been adequately sensitize or enlightened before the enforcement of the Ban.
Mr. Shagaya who acknowledged that the ban was intended to curb rising criminal activities like kidnapping, once chance and other criminal activities emphasized the need for a more proactive approach before the enforcement for Nigerians to key into the initiative

Adopting the motion, the house mandated the House Committee on Police Affairs to engage with the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to develop clear guidelines for the enforcement of such directives in the future, by ensuring adequate public awareness and reasonable timelines before implementation.
The House also directed the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to launch a comprehensive public enlightenment campaign, informing citizens about the specifics of the regulations and the procedures for obtaining necessary permits or making required modifications to their vehicles.
