EU, PARTNERS LAUNCH €12M SCOPE AFRICA PROJECT TO BOOST PORT SECURITY

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The EU and partners have launched SCOPE Africa, a €12 million project designed to strengthen safety, security and operational efficiency in major ports across West and Central Africa.

Unveiled in Lomé, Togo, the four-year initiative, implemented by Expertise France and Enabel, aims to improve crisis response, modernize port operations and deepen regional maritime cooperation.

Officials from beneficiary countries, port authorities and regional organisations described the project as a major step toward safer and more competitive African ports.

Ports benefiting from the programme include Lomé, Douala, Kribi, Praia, Pointe-Noire, Abidjan, Libreville, Monrovia, Lagos and Dakar.

A key highlight was the signing of an MoU with the Regional Maritime University in Accra to strengthen training and professional development in maritime security.

Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to improving port resilience and boosting economic growth across the region.
